Kohataen has a rich history as a tea master that began in the Edo period as a tea farmer in Ujitawara, the birthplace of Japanese green tea. We have inherited not only traditional techniques and cultivation knowledge but also a keen ability to distinguish high-quality tea leaves. Thanks to our refined skills, we hold certifications as assessors and instructors, and through our ongoing dedication to quality, we have won numerous awards worldwide. Founded in 1870 for wholesale distribution, we began mail-order sales in 1920 and became a corporation in 1962.
